| Fixed Income for Retirement |
The following illustration represents a potential combination of scenarios faced by faithful supporters of Family Research Council. The names and pictures in the story are not that of actual FRC partners.
Living in a small town has many benefits. Early retirement isn't typically among them. After serving many decades as a pediatrician in her rural community, Beverly Adams decided it was finally her time to enjoy a change of pace.
Beverly's situation: Many years ago, she bought some stock in different companies that cater to rural life. Overall, these proved to be very good investments. In preparing for retirement, she isn't certain she wants to continue to leave her savings in the market, because it can be so volatile at times.
Because Beverly's lifestyle is about to dramatically change, her needs for financial security are becoming more important. In the past, her occupation provided a steady salary. Moving forward, she wants her savings to offer that stable flow of income.
Beverly's scenario is not uncommon. For over 100 years, people have been using the charitable gift annuity to provide them with a source of income while making a unique gift to charity. Regardless of which of the 50 states someone lives, Family Research Council can work with them to establish a charitable gift annuity.
Beverly's potential solution: I called and asked about a gift annuity. I was very pleased to discover that I would receive a good payout based on my age. Plus, there would be a charitable tax deduction and part of the income would be tax-free.
I transferred my stock for a charitable gift annuity. I was delighted with the fixed payment I received. I avoided part of the capital gains tax and my CPA was pleased that my charitable deduction will save taxes this year. With my tax savings and increased income, I plan to spend more on my grandchildren this year!
